Does anyone understand this ad other than the fact that McDonalds delivers? Who is the target population for this?

Target population - Teens/young adults. Yeah, Id hit that too. Is this ad appropriate though?

Using attractive famous people to sell things: You will see a lot more of this as you scroll down. I personally like Jennifer Aniston, and her clear-cut image suits this ad. But really - selling water? Cant we pour from the tap for free? O wait, this water makes me smarter.... Ironic considering it is asking you to pay for something that is naturally free in North America.

McDonald's is touching on your romantic evening time with this ad - maybe insinuating memories of star gazing as a child.

Got Milk? Healthy ad - I like it! But once again, Famous Sells! Especially if it means that by drinking milk I can look like the Olsen twins!

I am actually shocked that Paris Hilton is in an ad for a hamburger! I get the impression that she doesn't eat anything, let alone hamburgers. Coffee or fruit smoothies I would understand, but hey. she must have been offered alot of money to do that.
ReplyDeleteIt really is shocking the amount of ads out there these days that are for food - but look at how many ads you have posted, and only 1 is for something healthy! That is a HUGE problem. Poor PSA's....seen once for every 130 fast food ads....not great stats!
My favourite is the New York Fries one that says "real fries, in a real fake world" - at least this one is 50% true...
ReplyDeleteI think it’s horrible that advertisements for unhealthy foods, along with ads for milk and even water have attractive, half naked, UNDERWEIGHT women in them.
Brittany Spears, Paris Hilton, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen...COME ON – this post is proof that we are in desperate need for policy intervention for fast food/ beverage advertising! – Some of them don’t even make sense. The delivery service ad for McDonalds, where the woman’s shirt says “don’t judge my brother, he’s not a book”?? I don’t get it... and if I am not part of the target group for this ad - then who is?
Really Interesting post, I enjoyed looking at the ridiculous ads! !
Most of the time I really don't realize how many food ads I'm exposed to in one day. The only time I could think of being tempted by food ads is while watching tv later in the evening. However, I felt my self getting sucked in as i looked through all the adds you posted. I began to wonder, "Does McDonalds really have curly fries?" which made me really wish i was currently eating curly fries. It's kind of scary how food marketing ads work so well.
ReplyDeleteIt is quite ridiculous how many advertisements there are out there, and just to think of the millions of dollars some company's spend. Looking at your examples shows that there is quite a range of audience in which they are going for. Some keep it simple and to the point, others go beyond to make a good laugh. One thing in which I had also learned about is food styling which can be seen in these ads which don't even use the actual product being marketed, and instead use non-food items in order to boost its appeal! The things people will do...its crazy.
ReplyDeleteHi Julie! Great post! I love the comments you put underneath them!
ReplyDeleteIt was fun looking at those ads, some were very clever making me laugh, but there were also a few that I did not understand. Like Amanda said, it seems obvious that a lot of these ads costs a fortune to be made (celebrity endorsed), and I feel that many of them did a great job to make audiences to have a more positive impression of the brand.
That ad from McDonalds with the fries that looked like hands is sooooooooo adorable!!!
Looking forward to your new postings, I think you choose a really good topic :)
Hi Julie,
ReplyDeleteit's really interesting that you have chosen this topic, because I focus mine on social marketing of healthy eating. I too provide ads, especially those clever, mind-blowing creative ads.
Although car ads has dominated the world of advertisement, but I guess McDonald has really dominated the fast food industry in showcasing a lot of different varietys of ads. I haven't research for it, but from what I see everyday, in the newspaper, in youtube advertisement section, MacDonald is really everywhere.
I am sure you know that in class, the prof says MacDonald is the first fast food restaurant in cutting trans fats in their menu items, now that I relate how frequent and how many campagin they have shown ever since I was born, I am pretty they have the revenue to be the first to cut down the trans fat. After all, what is there for the company to loose?
